Methodology

D.R. Floors has honed its working methodologies so that the team can work efficiently and accurately to give you the best service we can.

Here's a brief description of how we would set about doing this.

Sub-Floor Preparation

In order for any flooring product to look and feel right, attention must be paid to preparation of any subfloor prior to installation.

Wood Floors

Ensure that all boards are fastened down to you're satisfaction as overboarding your floor with a 6mm plywood will not stop it from squeaking.

If your floor is very warped, a coat of screed may be required prior to fixing the 6 mm plywood, which may be scribed or templated depending on the area we are working on.

Once the overboarding sheets have been cut to fit they are then fastend down with chisel edge staples, that spread when fired into the subfloor.

After this, a coat of skim is applied, which does several things: it primes the plywood so that the adhesive does not soak into the plywood and helps ensure that a a stronger bond is formed, it fills in any small gaps so that the joints in the boards are not visible through the flooring, and acts as a barrier between the tile and the board so that if a tile is damaged we are able to replace it with a new one, thus avoiding the need to claim on your insurance or buy a new floor.

This should then be allowed to cure for 24 hours prior to the installation of your new floor to give your tiles time to acclimatise to your room temperature and humidity.

We will then talk you through how you want your floor laying and answer any questions you might have.

Solid Floors

You must let us know if you have had, or are having, any problems with damp.

If your subfloor is very rough in texture there are a few options open to us; for example, you may decide to have your floor ashphalted, which would give us a good base to start from.

Failing that, all existing flooring should be removed wherever possible. We can then apply a base coat, or remove holes and rough edges with a repair motar. After this has cured a neoprene primer is applied prior to a full coat of water-based screed varying beetween 3mm and 12mm in thickness. This again needs time to cure which can also be used to acclimatise the tiles.

After this preparation, the same procedure as detailed above for wood floors is followed.
